Today when I logged in to Gmail I saw a red colour link. It was for 'New Video Chat from Google'. This is something many gmail users were expecting. Google was a bit late to introduce Video chat after introducing Gtalk.
To enable Video chat you have to download and install the voice and video plugin.
But still this is not yet available for Linux. Once you install the plugin, to start a video chat, select the contact you want to call In the Chat section of your Gmail. If they have a camera icon next to their name, you can make a voice or video call to them; just click Video & more.
This feature was built by Google acquired Sweden company Marratech which was into online video conferencing solutions before Google acquired it. It will be interesting to see how IM giants like Windows Live, Yahoo, Skype will face to this new threat. Though still Google Video chat is an infant when compared to them, who knows?

Check the video below to see how it works:

What will be next from Google???
